Current Exhibition ~ CADE TURNER

The Art Space at Yindela Street Cafe has taken over the entire shop! Every wall is now fitted out with a gallery hanging system and the natural light and great company is making this a beautiful place to enjoy Fair Trade awesome coffee surrounded by great art.
For the next two weeks....We are THRILLED to showcase the work of this incredibly talented artist. Cade paints with his camera. Film, not digital and there is no Photoshop. You really need to come into Yindela to EXPERIENCE his work. No surprise, Cade is off to New York in November for his first exhibition there.

CADE TURNER
showing now at Yindela until 12th October 2011
ARTISTS STATEMENT

I have always been fascinated with discovering the mystery contained within the raw elements of a scene its light, colour and movement. I am particularly inspired by the Great Impressionists for their sense of visual freedom, breaking traditional techniques and conventions which enabled them to capture impressions of light, colour and movement that had never been seen before.

I love challenging traditional photography and continually blurring the line between what we consider to be art, and what is considered photography. I enjoy breaking the rules, using the camera freely as my paintbrush to paint my works with light.

On location, I search for first impressions that catch my eye and work with the raw elements to develop my story. Sometimes this involves only slight alterations to what the eye naturally sees. Sometimes it involves completely decontextualising the original scene, and working with specific elements to break through into a completely new visual dimension.

OPENING NIGHT TONIGHT

"Annemarie Whiley" 28th July - 11th August
OPENING NIGHT THURSDAY 28th AUGUST 7 - 9pm
Opening nights in the warm, friendly Yindela, in the heart of the Forest are wonderful! I'm working with so many talented local artists at present with amazing artworks and visions. What excites me is unearthing these gems and getting their work 'out there'
Annemaire Whiley opens her very first solo exhibition after being a popular artist in the current "Local Birds" group show at Yindela. "Annemarie Whiley" 28th July - 11th August
I hope you enjoy this display of my paintings. This is the first public display of my art and I’m very happy to be able to share it with you.

I love the opportunity that art gives me for self expression. I studied art in high school and have since also enjoyed studying photography and musical theatre. My style has developed especially over the last 5 years since being able to be at home with my two young children. Painting with acrylics on canvas is my main medium while I also experiment with pastels on paper and I have always sketched with pen and pencil as well.

In my paintings I aim to achieve a true realisation of what I have absorbed around me. I like to express this as freely as I can by using a mixture of brush and finger painting techniques.

Living on the edge of Garigal National Park with my husband and two young sons has greatly inspired my painting. I have the amazing energy of my family and the beautiful surroundings of native birds, trees and magical sunsets.

I also enjoy painting personal artworks for people for their homes, as I have for some of my friends and their children. It is one of my favourite gifts to give.

GALLERY NEWS 26th July 2001

HELLO!
Well what a busy busy week! Need more of Glenn's Fair Trade awesome coffee.
Question: "Do I have to have an official invite to go to Opening Nights at Yindela Street Cafe?"
Answer: "Nooooooo... just come along. It's casual, it's relaxed, it's fun and you get to meet YOUR local artists."
OPENING NIGHT SABRINA LAYOUN
After saying farewell, only for a short time, to our vibrant Angela Van Boxtel (she is coming back for "Local Birds"), it was time to set up Sabrina Layoun's exhibition "Everything Will Be Just Fine", now until 13th July. I was so
moved by her title and the emotion in her work is just brilliant. Have so enjoyed watching this young artist progress to her very first show. Sabrina tells us she is very inspired by the work and life of Marcel Duchamp, which brings me to his gem "I do not believe in art. I believe in artists."
Sabrina "Sub" sold two of her four works on display at her Opening night. Congratulations. A hot young artist indeed.
EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES
Most of the artists who have approached us at Yindela have worried about their suitability. "Is it good enough?" We are not a high end gallery and yet we are not a cafe looking to decorate the walls, hanging work and forgetting about it for 6 months. We believe in artists and we believe very strongly in supporting emerging artists through a dedicated program of exhibitions and a growing structure and network (including this blog).
So is it good enough? Well if you are creating works and you are passionate, dedicated and growing, yes it is. We are not here to judge. We are a community art space that is offering knowledge, support, experience, opportunities, connections with other artists, collectors and the local community. Now we are are also offering Opening
Nights for those interested, no extra costs involved and full support our our curator and cafe owner. Finger food is available at very reasonable rates if required. Although we offer one wall, we are happy to rotate your artworks during your two week show, to replace sold works and to display as many additional works as you please on easels (floor and table) throughout the space on opening nights.
I have been flooded with inquires over the past few weeks and I have found that I've missed a couple, if you haven't heard back from me please try again. Most seem more interested in 'later' in the year and at this point we are now pretty booked up. We do have spots for the next few months.

Cafe Exhibition - Angela Von Boxtel

New exhibition is UP!
Angela is a regular organizer of amazing arty activities and exhibitions around our way, especially during the Manly Arts Festival. Come along to Yindela to see HER art work.
Bright, vibrant so full of life and zest, just the thing for these dull winter days.
As someone who adores found object sculpture, I am in love with her very clever assemblage pieces. Angela works in every medium imaginable, I think this clever girl has actually invented a few as well! Textiles, printing, painting, drawing, sculpture, all and more entwine to bring interesting uplifting artwork. I always think of Angela's work as 'Happy Art'. Current Exhibition: Michele Roach

Had loads of fun setting up our new exhibition at Yindela yesterday!

WOW... it's bustling in the Cafe! Testament to Glen's amazing coffee, service and style.
Love the big lounges he has put in, think I might be taking the laptop up there to study this week.
Our new artist is a local who dropped in for a coffee one day! That's what the Art Space at Yindela is all about, an opportunity for locals to share what they do.
Michele Roach paints straight from the heart, love that! Her 'Rock' series are my favourites. The nestled rocks and earth beneath us in rich colours and
such interesting patterns are intriguing and beautiful. I don't think I could ever get tired of them.
Michele has also included landscapes including Vienna (which proved very popular during our installation day!) and local dreamy seascapes.
We have cheekily extended around the corner of the Art Space and hung two of Michele's very vibrant, fun works of dancers.

Michele Roach
13th May - 3rd June 2011

My name is Michele Roach and I am a mother and grandmother.
I have spent most of my life as a Health Care Professional, helping
others and watching life happen to “other people”. I particularly
loved working in Palliative Care, and would like to think I made this
journey less painful for a lot
of patients and their families.

All this changed for me 18 months ago, with a devastating diagnosis
of Parkinson ’s Disease.

Work outside the home became impossible after a while, and I
decided to reacquaint myself with my old hobby of painting.
This quickly became my therapy and my total escape.
Soon I was back taking Art lessons and trying to learn more about
what had now become my passion.

I would like to share some of my journey with you through the
paintings here today. I hope the message you take away is
“living in the m
oment” and “when one door closes, another opens”.

You just have to keep knocking!

Welcome!

As the Curator of the about to be opened "Yindela Cafe" in Davidson Sydney, I am developing an exhibition program for the rest of the year. It's a well presented and managed space that I know will be well supported by the community.
The owner, Glenn, is an amazing guy, who only creates his coffee materpieces with Fair Trade coffee AND they are delicious to boot! A Fair Trade Tea Service will be opening within the cafe as well with wonderful High Teas too. All VERY exciting!!

In the picture is the art space. New stainless steel, gallery hanging system installed. It is an average size, very well lit and can be viewed from outside the cafe.
The plan is for exhibitions of three weeks duration. Extra display space for easels (table and free standing) is available on opening nights.
If you or your group would like information on exhibiting at Yindela, please contact me.
